Visit to the lavender fields of Brihuega
Sofia Lluch had the opportunity to participate in the Summit of Academics organized by the Perfume Academy on July 7th and 8th, 2021, which was held in person.
The Perfume Academy Foundation, whose mission is the dissemination of perfume culture, has celebrated the appointment of nine new academics – five women and four men – who join what is already considered the world’s elite of Spanish-speaking perfumers of different nationalities, all with strong ties to our perfume culture. To culminate the day marked by the tribute to perfume, the academics and the Board of Trustees of the Perfume Academy visited the lavender fields of the municipality of Brihuega, in La Alcarria, which many already know as the “Spanish Provence”, due to the scent given off by its hectares in bloom, and which represents a key meeting point for professionals in the sector.
It is the largest plantation in Spain and one of the largest in Europe, with 1000 hectares dedicated to six varieties: fine lavender, maillette lavender, lavandin super, lavandin grosso, arial lavandin and sea lavender. Lavender from this area accounts for about 10% of world production
